Family Fun & Baseball
Family Fun!

Family Fun!

This summer has been jam-packed, and we are only half way through it! Even with all the busyness, I feel extremely blessed. This week Dawn, Hannah and I have been able to take a break from some of our normal activities as both David and Jon came to visit us! Woo-hoo!!

We’ve just had a wonderful time enjoying our family being together, which is a special treat. To top it off this year the Baseball All-Star game was played in San Diego. There’s been all kinds of fun activities from last Saturday till this Tuesday.

All-Star Game in San Diego

I grew up a big baseball fan. I played baseball as a young boy, and then I coached my two boys when they played. If you spend time around our family you know that we like to talk about baseball. I suppose to some we talk about it too much. I’m sure Dawn and Hannah feel like we get carried away at times.

On the positive side, even though Dawn isn’t a baseball fan, she let’s me indulge. Hannah doesn’t follow baseball, but she enjoys going to the games with me. I need a baseball buddy, since the boys no longer live here.

Fulfilling a Dream

The Lord blessed us with an opportunity that I didn’t think I would every have. David Jr. and Jonathan were able to go to the Home run derby on Monday. Then on Tuesday David and I were able to go to the All-Star game. What a wonderful memory with my boys! I’m so glad that now that they are adults there is something that we connect around.

Our faith and walk with Christ are always central and I believe they serve to unify us, and help us get through the rough patches. It’s a gift from the Lord that we can also enjoy baseball together!

David Jr. said that it was a childhood dream of his to be able to go to the Home run derby and the All-Star game. All three of us, David, Jonathan and I enjoyed the festivities that went along with the games.

I thank the Lord for the gift that this was for our family, especially the men in the family. Even though Dawn and Hannah didn’t go to any of the All-Star activities they loved having David and Jonathan here for a visit. In between the All-Star weekend festivities we found some time to spend together as family. We learn to cherish these moments more and more as our children are now grown, and David & Jonathan live in other cities.

Thank you Lord for allowing us to enjoy family and sports activities together! I’ve found that sporting events are a good way to connect with other church planters as well. The Lord has connected me to some wonderful people who are laboring in the extension of the kingdom on the earth at sporting events! Thank you Jesus for the many good gifts that you give us.

Baseball & Church Planting
Dave with Pastor Ivan

Dave with Pastor Ivan on the foundation for the new church plant

I’m excited about two events that are going on this week. One is the beginning of baseball season, and second is the building of the new church in Tijuana.

On Tuesday I will be with some church planters to discuss church planting in Southern California and Tijuana. Then after the meeting we’ll go to a baseball game together. That’s like a day made in heaven!

Hope for Valle Verde

As much as I may enjoy baseball, the new church is even better. When you think of all the lives that will be touched, and the people who will be reached for the kingdom in the community of Valle Verde in Tijuana. Wow! What a privilege to play a part in that.

Pray with us for all the details as we make the final preparations for our trip to Tijuana with a group from the Harbor network of churches on April 5th and 12th. I’m still working on setting up all the van transportation, and getting all the insurance forms filled out. The details aren’t the fun part of the trip for me, but very necessary if we wish to have a successful trip.

Our church planting couple Ivan and Rocio Casados just got back from the church planting assessment center in Monterrey, Mexico. They did very well there, and told me that it was a real blessing for them to be there. Ivan said that they were able to learn more about themselves and church planting through their time in Monterrey.

Thank you Jesus for your good work!

One of the many things that encourages me as we serve here on the border is that the longer we are here the more we learn and we are able to improve. God’s grace enters in and allows us to do an even better work.

Rejoice with us! Pray for a wonderful two weekends and a Spirit  inspired launch of this new church plant.

Dreaming About Church Expansion
The meeting with church planters and leaders

The meeting with church planters and leaders

This week I went around Tijuana with Daniel Nuñez and a new friend, JD Pearring looking at some of the new church plants, and dreaming about the future. There is some land for sale that could make for a good site for the next church plant.

One of the things I love about Daniel is that he is always looking to grow the church. His goal is to see 50 churches started in 20 years. Lo Mejor del Trigo already has 20 churches, so the Lord is blessing and the churches are growing.

JD works with Transformation Ministries and they have a heart to see the kingdom expanded through church planting and church revitalization. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet him, and learn more about the ministry that he is associated with.

Bringing Two of My Loves Together

Daniel and JD invited me to go to a meeting at Petco Park for church planters, and then to watch a game after. I didn’t need my arm twisted to accept that invite.

There were a number of pastors and leaders from California and Tijuana at the meeting. I loved meeting and interacting with these men and women who have such a heart for seeing the kingdom of God expanded on earth as it is in heaven.

One of my loves apart from church planting is baseball, so it was a great treat to have some fun and interact with the guys at the ballpark!

I enjoy interacting with other people who are passionate about the church. I feel like I always come away enriched, and often I even get a few new ideas. There usually are some opportunities to minister together in the future through these connections. I believe that God loves it when different, but like-minded ministries come together for the good of the city.

Lord, Hear Our Prayer

Lord, thank you so much for kingdom connections, and for your heart to see the church built up. I pray that we will see a renewed city and a revived border as we work together for the kingdom. Please guide and lead us along the way. Bring the right people to join us in this effort!
