Dr. Lloyd Kim sharing at MTW regional hub meeting

Yesterday Dawn and I went to a luncheon in Encinitas at Redeemer Church to promote missions with Mission to the World (MTW). It was a wonderful event as we heard from MTW’s coordinator, Dr. Lloyd Kim and Mobilization director, Dave Veldhorst.

They spoke about the vision of seeing 2,877 new missionaries join the mission force through MTW. That’s an exciting and a big goal for our mission. One of the ways we aim to do that is by forming regional hubs in places like San Diego, Dallas and St. Louis to train and prepare potential missionary candidates.

This vision is still coming together, so we need much prayer. One blazing truth that remains is that Jesus needs men and women to serve him in missions. He needs people who are willing to go and serve.

Christ asked his disciples to pray for more workers.

And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers in his harvest.” (Luke 10:2,3) ESV

Here’s a helpful short video that MTW put together that challenges us to think and pray about sending more people into the world.

Dawn and I have been praying since before we arrived on the border for more workers. Please join us in prayer that God will raise up many more laborers to go out into the harvest field, and that some of them would join us in our work in Mexico.

To Be Thrilled With Your Presence
Cambodia - A different world to be sure!

Cambodia – A different world to be sure!

I read this statement recently in Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest. This is becoming my cry to the Lord.

It reminds me of the Sons of Korah song in Psalm 42. The Psalmist declares,

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? —Psalm 42:1-2 NIV

As I reflect on my desire to hunger for God and his presence it reminds me of Dr. Lloyd Kim’s words when we were together for Mission to the World’s (MTW) worldwide leadership meetings. He challenged us to be broken and humble before the Lord as we serve him. It’s easy when we are serving in ministry to just get to a point where we are going through the motions.

God’s Gentle Touch

While I was at MTW’s conference the Lord ministered to me as I met with missionaries and nationals from all over the world. God touched my heart as I listened to their stories. Some of them are ministering in very difficult places, under difficult circumstances. Others minister freely, but the soil is hard and the fruit is slow.

Between these words from Dr. Kim and Oswald Chambers and my experience with the missionaries I feel God calling me into a deeper relationship with him. To be thrilled with his presence!

Join Us on the Journey

I invite you to join me. Pray for me that I will be faithful in this journey. It’s so easy to become cynical and jaded. We all have bad experiences in the church and just in life in general, and then we take it out on God. It’s as if we will only seek him if things are going well. But that’s not the way of the cross. It’s not what the Lord has called us to.

I thank you for joining me and my family on this journey. It’s sometimes painful, but it’s worth it.

God is on the Move
The fascinating country of Cambodia

The fascinating country of Cambodia

I feel very encouraged about how I see God working around the world and that he is using Mission to the World (MTW) among other missions organizations to advance the kingdom of God. I’m in Cambodia for MTW’s worldwide leadership conference. It’s so good to be with so many missionaries who are serving all over the world.

The Importance of a Humility

Earlier today, Dr. Lloyd Kim the new coordinator for MTW spoke on Matthew 6:5-9. In this passage Jesus warns his disciples not to pray like the hypocrites. Dr. Kim warned us of the dangers of being in professional ministry. It’s easy to become cynical and to just go through the motions. God calls us to be humble and to be broken before him.

This is the way of the cross and the way of the gospel.

It was a helpful reminder for me and all my colleagues. We are about a great task, taking the gospel to the nations.

Striking Contrasts between Japan and Cambodia
Some of the foreign gods of Cambodia

Some of the foreign gods of Cambodia

I just left Japan which is the 2nd largest unreached nation in the world. Now I’m in Cambodia a world with many foreign gods. There are reminders all around the hotel we are staying at. Even though there is much work to be done in this nation it is one of the places where the gospel is growing fastest in the world.

What a contrast! I don’t understand fully understand the great why one country is so responsive and another is so cold to the gospel of Christ!

Our Hope!

We are not without hope, because the message we proclaim is a hope filled message. Our job is to sow the seed. We need to learn how to sow it more effectively, but it must be done.

When I’m around so many talented and gifted leaders I often feel different emotions. If I compare myself to them I begin to feel insecure. I don’t stack up! I must remind myself of Christ, and that my worth is in him.

I also feel humbled when I sit around the table with these choice men and women and hear their stories. Dedicate servants who have given their lives to serving the Lord.

Of course as Lloyd Kim reminded us in the morning we are broken people. We all need the gospel and we need it daily.

My Prayer

O Lord, use me in spite of my own brokenness and weaknesses. Use me along with all the saints that serve you in missions. I do pray that Jesus will be preached with power and that many will come to a saving faith and be discipled in that faith. O Lord, hear my prayer!

Dr. Lloyd Kim Nominated as New Coordinator
Dr. Lloyd Kim

Dr. Lloyd Kim

Mission to the World (MTW) announced yesterday that Lloyd Kim is the new coordinator. We have been praying for a year as the search committee has been looking for a new coordinator to replace Dr. Paul Kooistra.

It’s the beginning of a new era for MTW.

Dr. Kooistra led MTW for 20 years. The mission grew from serving in 36 countries when he began in 1994 to 88 countries today. 738 missionaries and 1028 national partners serve with MTW.

Paul Kooistra said, “I can’t think of anyone who can better lead Mission to the World than Lloyd Kim.” Read more about Dr. Lloyd Kim and the transition here…
