The Great Commission

It all starts with vision!

Our vision for the Border, the Baja and Beyond is to see a multiplication of churches which results in transformed individuals, families and communities.

Christ gave us the Great Commission in Gospel of Matthew.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. –Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)

The best way to make disciples is through the church. The size and type of church is secondary, but the church is God’s chosen vehicle. I realize the church is imperfect made up of broken and sinful people like you and me. Yet there is much hope, because of the gospel. The gospel changes everything. The gospel brings transformation!

Since the church is God’s chosen vehicle this is the reason we believe church planting is so vital to the growth of the body of Christ.

Someone has said that Tijuana is the most evangelized city in the world and one of the least churched. This may be an exaggeration, but the point is that many groups come down to do outreach on the border, but much of it isn’t connected to the church. This leads to fruit that doesn’t last. The fruit perishes as it is often choked out by the world.

Followers of Jesus are meant to grow together. This is evident in many passages throughout the  Bible. Some of those passages are the one another passages. Here are a few of them written by the Apostle Paul.

  • Members of one another – Romans 12:5
  • Devoted to one another – Romans 12:10
  • Honor one another – Romans 12:10
  • Same mind as one another – Romans 15:5
  • Accept one another Romans 15:7
  • Serve one another – Galatians 5:13
  • Bear one another’s burdens – Galatians 6:2
  • Submit to one another – Ephesians 4:2
  • Encourage one another – I Thessalonians 5:11

I’ve been involved in meetings on Friday and Saturday with pastors and church leaders who are working in a number of cities in Baja California. My hope is that God will work through us to see his kingdom expanded through his church here on the Border, the Baja and Beyond.

O Lord, Hear our prayer. Grow your church!

I give thanks to the Lord for giving me the chance to come back to Mexico City after 12 years. I didn’t realize how much I missed this mammoth city and it’s people until I returned.

It’s been so good to reconnect with many of my friends. I wish I could have seen even more of them. I guess, I’ll have to make another trip soon.

While I’ve been in this city, it’s made me wonder if the Lord may have people here who he might call to serve with us on the border. It may take some time to find them, but I know this is not a difficult task for the Lord. After all, there are over 25 million people here.

Join us in prayer as we ask the Lord for workers to join us. O Lord, expand your kingdom on the border and in the Baja!

Mission to the World’s Global Missions Conference in Greenville, SC

This weekend Dawn and I participated in Mission to the World’s (MTW) Global Missions Conference. The conference was called, The Spirit Moves. I love this title, because it’s a good reminder that we are dependent on God’s Spirit to see any fruit.

It’s too easy to depend on our own efforts, but when we do so the work becomes hard. I pray as we move forward in ministry on the border that we will see the Spirit move in powerful ways!

There were 2,500 at the conference. Thank the Lord for all the interest in God’s mission.

The conference began with a keynote from MTW’s coordinator, Dr. Paul Kooistra, and it ended with Dr. Ravi Zacharias. All of the speakers did a wonderful job of lifting our hearts, and inspiring us to look to Jesus in this great journey of mission that he has called us to join him on.

Dawn and I set up a booth to promote the ministry on the border. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet people, and share about how God is moving where we live and work.

I found it invigorating to connect with friends that I work with, and to meet so many that are interested in missions.

We continue to pray that the Lord will raise up men and women to work alongside us. MTW has set a prayer goal to see 150 people go to the mission field by 2015.

Today Dawn and I are in Lookout Mountain, Georgia  where we are participating in Covenant College‘s missions conference. 🙂 We are getting all of our conferences in. This gives us even more opportunities to interact with people and to sow the seeds of missions.

In God’s good timing he will bring others. His Spirit has been moving and continues to go ahead of us and move people’s hearts.

Thanks be to the Lord, the author and finisher of the work of missions. It is his work after all!
