Light in the Darkness: God at Work in Cuba
The lights went out across the entire island.
In an instant, Cuba was plunged into darkness. No electricity. No refrigeration. No way to communicate. Families sat in sweltering homes as food spoiled and silence settled in. For many, it felt like everything was unraveling.
And yet, this is where we are seeing God move.
Even in one of its darkest moments, something remarkable is stirring in Cuba. In the midst of crisis and uncertainty, God is still at work.
We believe He is preparing to bring renewal, to rescue and restore His people after nearly seventy years of hardship and oppression.
Light is coming, even as the night deepens.
Faith That Endures in Daily Hardship
Staying in touch with our familia in Cuba has become increasingly difficult due to failing infrastructure. Every message we do receive feels both precious and sobering.
Yaima recently shared how challenging life has become. Electricity is available only a few hours a day. Without refrigeration, food quickly spoils. Prices continue to rise, and fuel is scarce.
Yet even in these conditions, her faith remains strong.
Exhausted but determined, she wakes whenever power returns—sometimes in the early hours of the morning—to cook for her family, pray, and prepare for another day of ministry. Her hope is firmly anchored in Christ as she continues to share the love of Jesus with children and families through Hannah’s Toys of Hope.
“But God Is Good”
Another dear friend and ministry partner, Ailyn, shared these heartfelt words:
“No matter how much someone tries to explain the situation to those who are not living through it, it is impossible to understand the true magnitude of the suffering. We have returned to something like the early Christian community, and it seems there is still more for us to go through.”
Even as she described these heavy realities, her heart turned toward hope:
“But God is good. The Lord does not abandon His people. And even though humanly speaking we often don’t see a way out, we can rest in God.”
Her faith shines in the midst of hardship. In the face of despair, Ailyn—and so many others—cling to God’s promises and continue serving their communities with courage.
They remind us of this truth: even in the darkest moments, the light of Christ never goes out.

These continue to be challenging days for our Cuban familia, yet God’s presence is shining even in the darkness. The Spirit is strengthening His people to stand firm, and we want to come alongside them—to be part of what God is doing right now on the Big Island.
