Honoring Hannah’s Legacy: Bringing Hope to Children
Today, our daughter Hannah would have celebrated her 32nd birthday.
Days like this always bring a mix of memories—gratitude for the beautiful gift Hannah was to our family, and the deep longing that comes from missing her. Yet over the past few years, God has given us a meaningful way to honor her life and legacy through a ministry that continues to bring joy and hope to others: Hannah’s Toys of Hope.
What began as a small desire to bless children in Hannah’s memory has grown into something far beyond what we imagined.
Over the last two years, more than 1,000 children have been blessed with toys, school supplies, and shoes through this ministry. But even more importantly, many families have heard the message of the Gospel through these simple acts of love.
A Simple Gift That Opens Hearts
When we first launched Hannah’s Toys of Hope, our vision was simple: reach children and families with the love of Christ through the gift of a toy.
After a few months, we began to notice something heartbreaking. Many families simply could not afford basic school supplies or even shoes for their children.
So the ministry expanded.
Today, our teams provide backpacks, school supplies, shoes, and toys—items that many parents cannot afford but that make an enormous difference in a child’s life.
Again and again, we hear parents say through tears how grateful they are. For them, these gifts are more than practical help—they are reminders that God sees them and cares for them.
And as these gifts are shared, the Gospel is also proclaimed. Many children and parents have opened their hearts to Christ through these outreaches.
A Special Connection
One family that has become very dear to us is Dairon and Dayana. We have known them for several years, and they often affectionately call Dawn and me their adopted parents—Madre and Padre.
Two years ago, the Lord blessed them with a baby girl. When she was born, they made a beautiful decision that deeply touched our hearts.
They named her Hannah, spelled exactly the same as our daughter’s name.
It was such a sweet and unexpected reminder of how God weaves connections of love across borders and cultures.
Today, Dairon and Dayana serve faithfully on the ministry team with Yaima in Hannah’s Toys of Hope. When they visit communities, they organize games, sing with the children, and share the Gospel.
Often, Dairon and Dayana even dress up as clowns, bringing laughter and joy to the children. Many times they send me videos of the kids praying and receiving Christ.
Seeing these moments is a powerful reminder that Hannah’s legacy continues to bring life and hope to others.
A Symbol That Reminds Us
Recently, Yaima created special T-shirts for the ministry team featuring the zebra print design we use in memory of Hannah.
Hannah loved zebra print. Our daughter-in-law Emily, who is an artist, designed a beautiful fish with a zebra pattern that has become a symbol connected with this ministry.
The shirts say in Spanish:
“Hannah Juguetes de Esperanza”
(Hannah’s Toys of Hope).
Seeing the team wear these shirts as they serve children is deeply meaningful to us. It reminds us that even through loss, God can bring beauty, purpose, and hope.
Extend Your Hands to Help
God is moving powerfully in Mexico and across Cuba, where new churches are being planted, leaders are being trained, and families are being discipled, even in extremely difficult circumstances.
And through Hannah’s Toys of Hope, children continue to receive:
