God’s Power On Display Amidst Power Outages

The Light of Christ Shines Brightly Amidst Power Outages
Sharing the Light of Christ and giving to those in need

When I write about the Big Island I realize that I often share about the hardships that people face in daily living. It’s one of the realities that our familia lives with. Daily I am receiving messages from them about the power outages that last up to 20 hours a day. The weather is similar to Miami’s weather. It’s hot there! When they don’t have electricity they can’t even run their fans. Sleeping at night becomes problematic because it’s so uncomfortable. As you might imagine this leads to exhaustion.

God is at work despite all the discomfort, lack of food, and basic items. The church is growing! People are coming to Christ. Where there is darkness, the light of Christ shines brightly. “Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'” (John 8:12 ESV).

The Gospel is Going Forth
Pastor Ernesto on the right with a friend

One of our good friends, Pastor Ernesto* is working with several churches and church planters. He told me that in April, they shared the gospel with 2,961 people, and 898 came to faith. They have 373 house churches. This is a report from just one of the pastors that we are working with. It’s thrilling to partner with these leaders, who are so devoted and have such a deep love for Christ.

Last week when I sent my devotional reflection out to the pastors and leaders, I also recorded a prayer for them using a voice memo. I prayed through Psalm 91 personalizing the Psalm that I sent to them.

Pastor Ernesto wrote me after I sent out the prayer. “Thank you servant for this declaration of Psalm 91. Please support us in prayer, because the energy problem is difficult. At times we go up to 32 hours without electricity. The food in our freezer spoiled. Almost no one sells meat now. People buy what they need for the day, and those who sell do not run the risk of buying large quantities so that the food doesn’t spoil.

Thank you, David, for your words and your prayers, they always encourage us. Your prayers and all of the help that you are sending are very valuable. Right now it’s so hard to live with the problems that we are having with the electricity.”

Ernesto is a wonderful man of God. He’s very dedicated to serving the Lord. He loves to pray, and fast. The Lord is using him in amazing ways. Dawn and I give thanks for Pastor Ernesto and his wife. Our Lord has been very gracious to give us such wonderful men and women to work with on the Big Island.

The gifts that you are sending are making a significant difference for them. You become the hands and feet of Jesus as you extend your hands to bless them through your prayers and donations.

This short video will give you a glimpse into how God is at work on the Big Island. Some of the people who are receiving the aid that we are sending share their thanks at the end of the video. It’s heartwarming to see.

Thank you for joining us in prayer, and for considering making a gift to help our precious familia.
