God is Building His Church in Mexicali!
Every time we build a new church it’s unique. It gives us great joy! The story behind each church is different. One of the reasons that Verdad y Vida “Truth and Life Church” is different, is because we’ve known the pastor and his family for five years. Pastor Federico and Blanca and their four children, Junior, Daniel, David, and Damaris have become like family to us, which makes this extra special.
It was so gratifying when we finished building the church on Friday. Everyone who participated which was close to 40 people shared a word of encouragement. There were many tears, especially from the people from the Verdad and Vida Church. Something they had dreamed of was becoming a reality.
After the church groups from Colorado, Claremont, and Tijuana finished up and said goodbye, there was still some work to be done. The people from the Mexicali church were so excited to finally have their own building that they stayed until 9 PM working on putting in the insulation and the drywall. Then they came back Saturday afternoon and worked some more. They almost have all the drywall up now!
Another exciting event was that initially, Pastor Federico told the people that he wanted to wait until Sunday to hold their first service in the building so that they had a chance to announce to everyone that they were going to be moving from the park. Yet, the people from the church didn’t want to wait a week. So they got the word out and held their first service in their new church building this past Sunday.
The church has been meeting in a park for the last two years, so it’s huge that they now have their own place to meet. Dawn and I are so excited for them!
Blanca shared what a wonderful answer this was after praying for 4 years for a place to meet. They are thrilled that the Lord answered their prayers. She said, “Only to God be the glory!!! Our hearts are still vibrating with the excitement of the impact of what God is doing on our behalf.”
Transformed Lives!
We enjoyed getting to know some of the families that came out to help. Gilberto and Mary are a young couple that have recently come to Christ. They are growing in their faith, and God is transforming their lives out of much pain and brokenness. Mary was there every day helping to cook for the groups that came to work on the construction of the church.
One particular member, Pascual, has an amazing testimony. He decided when he got out of jail not long ago that he didn’t want to go back to the neighborhood he was from because that’s where he got in trouble. He had many bad memories of that place. One Sunday he was near the park where Verdad and Vida hold their services. Federico was preaching about the prodigal son. That story gripped Pascaul’s heart. He listened to the message. Later he gave his life to Christ and he was recently baptized.
Pascual is so grateful for what the Lord has done for him that he’s been working a 12-hour shift, and then coming each day to help build the church. He only rested for a few hours a day, so that he could help with the construction of the church.
So many good stories, and so many lives that have been transformed by Jesus! There’s more to come!
