When You Reach a Child, You Reach a Family
The Border, The Baja & Beyond
Summer is one of our favorite seasons of ministry.
Across Mexico and Cuba, our churches come alive with Vacation Bible Schools, soccer camps, children’s outreaches, and community events. Every laugh, every game, every Bible lesson, and every song becomes an opportunity to introduce children—and often their parents—to the love of Jesus Christ.
Over the years, we’ve discovered a beautiful truth:
When you reach a child, you often open the door to an entire family.
Children invite their parents to church. Mothers build friendships with other moms. Families begin hearing the Gospel together. Churches are strengthened, and new believers are welcomed into the family of God.
That’s why ministry to children remains one of the most effective ways we know to reach communities with the hope of Christ.
Soccer, Stories, and the Gospel
In Durango, Pastor Noé Reyes and his team hosted a soccer camp with the help of a mission team from the United States. Through their ministry, Futbolistas para Cristo (Soccer for Christ), children not only learn soccer skills but also hear the Gospel.
While the children practice, women from the church connect with their mothers, building relationships and sharing Christ’s love. Our dear friend Margarita Carreño continues to play an important role in this growing ministry.
Time Traveling with Jesus in La Paz
Meanwhile, in La Paz, Pastor Benjamin Romero’s church welcomed children to a creative Vacation Bible School called “Time Traveling with Jesus.” Through Bible stories like David and Goliath, children stepped back in time to discover God’s faithfulness in fun and engaging ways.
Churches in Oaxaca, across Baja, and throughout Cuba also hosted vibrant VBS programs that filled their buildings with excitement, laughter, and opportunities to share the Gospel.
Joy That Opens Hearts
Through Hannah’s Toys of Hope, many of our church plants in Cuba were able to host children’s outreaches that otherwise would not have been possible.
One church welcomed 53 children, each receiving a toy along with the message of Christ.
Another outreach drew 135 children, many of whom had first been contacted through street ministry. As they heard the Gospel, many placed their faith in Jesus.

Yaima, one of our ministry leaders in Cuba, shared these encouraging words:
“Thank you for the great help you provide that gives these joyful moments for the children.”
In Cuba, clown shows remain one of the most effective ways to gather children. Watching them laugh, sing, and experience joy in the midst of difficult circumstances is a beautiful reminder that the Gospel brings hope.
