Yaima’s Prayers and Request for Help
Yaima, one of our leaders on the Big Island, reached out to Dawn and me asking for our help. She has been praying for the children she’s been supporting and ministering to through Hannah’s Toys of Hope. As she continued to pray and reflect, she became deeply concerned about the struggles parents face as school begins in September.
A backpack costs around five thousand pesos, or $17 USD, and a pair of shoes costs at least that much as well. This doesn’t include all the other supplies a child needs for school. Given that many families earn just $25 a month, they need to save for three months or more to afford a backpack. For those earning even less, a backpack and shoes are simply out of reach.
Yaima asked if we could share these needs with you. She mentioned, “Even a gift of $30 could buy socks for 27 children.” Though she felt uncomfortable asking for help, I know this is something you would want to support. She concluded her message saying, “I don’t like asking for anything, but I’m reaching out to see if there’s any possibility to collaborate in supporting these parents and uplifting the hearts of children who are facing such significant needs and scarcity.”
