A Devastating Fire: A Call to Help Rebuild

Early Monday morning, I received heartbreaking news: a devastating fire broke out around 4 AM at the church in Rojo Gómez, Tijuana, pastored by our dear friend Abraham Velázquez.

Dawn and I have known Abraham and his wife, Martha, for 15 years. They are gifted, faithful leaders whose ministry has been powerfully used by God in the community of Rojo Gómez. Just a couple of days ago, on Easter Sunday, Abraham shared the exciting vision to expand the church building to accommodate the growing congregation. Tragically, the very next day, disaster struck. Abraham suspects the fire may have been set intentionally by someone opposed to the church’s growth.
A Battle Beyond the Flames

I just spoke with Abraham, and I sought to encourage him. We talked about the spiritual battle that we are in. As 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 reminds us, “the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” It points out the importance of your prayers in the midst of this battle.
The fire damaged a significant portion of the church building. Thankfully, their home, which is next to the church, was spared. Still, this loss is unsettling to Abraham, Martha and their teenage children, Gadiel and Salmai, as their place of worship and ministry has been severely affected.
We have stood with the Velazquez family through many seasons, including constructing their pastoral home with Redeemer Church San Diego. Now, they need our help more than ever.
Would you prayerfully consider a special gift to help them rebuild?
Based on our current estimates, fire restoration costs can easily exceed $20,000, and in many cases, may reach $27,000 or more, depending on the extent of the damage and the repairs needed. Every contribution will help this faithful family and their church, Comunidad Cristiana, continue sharing hope and shining the light in Rojo Gómez.

Together, we can stand with Abraham, Martha, Gadiel, and Salmai in this time of need. Please pray for their protection and strength, and consider making a gift that will help restore their church and ministry. Your generosity will make a Big difference!
