New Ground, New Growth: God’s Work in Southern Mexico

A New Door Opens in Chiapas

Dawn and I recently had the opportunity to visit Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is the southernmost state in the country, bordering Guatemala. Even though we’ve ministered in Mexico for 36 years, this was our first time in Chiapas.

The state is absolutely beautiful—lush, green, and mountainous, thanks to its tropical climate and regular rain. But beyond the landscape, something even more beautiful is happening spiritually: God is moving in powerful ways in this part of the country.

Meeting Leaders with Vision

We met with leaders who represent a group of over 200 churches. They have a clear desire to see the Church grow throughout Mexico. These leaders are already supporting one of our church planters, Pastor Noé Reyes, and his wife, Eneydi, in Durango.

Noé introduced us to Marco, Enrique, and Tomas—key leaders in the region. Marco is the president of CIPRECH, a council of churches in Chiapas. It’s incredibly encouraging to see Mexican church leaders who are not only focused on their own communities but have a national vision for church planting.

Friendship, Vision, and Church Growth in Mexico

Marco is a strong and passionate young leader that the Lord is clearly using. Remarkably, Noé and Marco grew up together and have known each other since their youth group days. It’s inspiring to see how God is now using their friendship and gifts to expand His Kingdom.

Building Relationships That Build the Church

Dave, Marco, Ithan, Dawn, and Enrique visiting Los Lagos near Guatemala. Our time in Chiapas helped build a strong foundation of relationships and trust with these leaders. We sensed a genuine openness and a shared longing to strengthen the Church so it can be more effective in reaching the lost.

We’ve been praying for revival and reformation in Mexico—that the Church would truly be salt and light, bringing transformation to society. As Habakkuk 2:14 says:

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”

After spending time with these leaders, we are filled with hope and expectation. We believe God will use them powerfully to help build His Church in Chiapas and beyond.

One example of what God is doing is through Vida Durango, led by Pastor Noé. The church has grown from 20 to over 70 people and will officially be constituted later this year. Even more exciting, they are launching their second church plant—El Camino—this month in Durango.

In addition, Noé is building a network of churches in Mazatlán, Culiacán, Colima, and San José del Cabo. This network is designed to encourage and support pastors while promoting church planting and leadership development.

As Pastor Noé put it, he believes that CIPRECH can be a “motor” for planting churches and fueling spiritual growth throughout Mexico. We feel incredibly encouraged by this partnership and look forward to all that God will do for His honor and glory.

Please pray for:

  • Pastor Noé and the church in Durango – as they launch a second congregation, El Camino (The Way), on August 17th.

  • Marco, Enrique, and Tomas – for wisdom as they lead CIPRECH, the council for more than 200 churches in Chiapas.
  • Hugo and Yazmin in Los Cabos – for their mission church, Luz y Vida (Light and Life), that God would continue to provide for the construction of their building and bless their outreach in the community.

  • All the pastors we serve across Mexico and the Big Island, that the Holy Spirit would guide, protect, and empower them to reach their communities with the hope of Christ.

  • Hannah’s Toys of Hope – that more children and families would come to know Jesus through this ministry.

Thank you for praying with us. Your intercession is a vital part of what God is doing.
