Brightening Lives: Rene and Yarelis’s Mission to Bring Joy through Hannah’s Toys of Esperanza
Recently, I had a fruitful conversation with Pastor Rene and Yarelis, and after their approval, we are now able to use their real names. We always exercise caution when sharing personal information about ministry work on the Big Island, but they believe that revealing their names will positively impact the ministry. They feel secure and confident in sharing this information.
Their vision is to bless the children and their families through the gift of a toy. Many of these children lack toys, and those who do often have ones that are old and broken. Yarelis expressed, “it’s such a beautiful experience to see the big smiles when they give the children their toy.” Their aim is to provide toys to children in need within their mission churches, typically in economically challenged areas. Additionally, they aspire to reach children in regions without a church, anticipating the establishment of new churches through Hannah’s Toys of Hope. That’s exciting to think of churches being started and people being reached for Christ as an outgrowth of this ministry.
Misión Esperanza
This past week, Rene and Yarelis visited one of the mission churches named “Misión Esperanza” (Hope Mission), a name that feels fitting and even prophetic. In Spanish, the toy ministry is called, Ministerio Hannah Juguetes de Esperanza (Hannah’s Toys of Hope).
During our video call, Rene and Yarelis shared that many children in these communities lack basic necessities, such as enough food and proper footwear, with many walking around barefoot. The needs are abundant, and we’ve committed to sending monthly aid to assist families in purchasing food and basic necessities.
Upon discussing the challenges with my son, David, and his wife, Emily, they were particularly moved by the lack of shoes and adequate clothing for these children. There are definitely opportunities for this ministry to expand to address other pressing needs. As a family, we are seeking guidance through prayer, and we would appreciate your prayers as well.
Extend Your Hands to Help!
Our initial goal with Pastor Rene and Yarelis is to provide 50 toys to bless 50 children. The cost for these toys amounts to $650. We have already sent $250 to them to kickstart the purchase of some toys, and are actively working to raise the remaining $400. Your financial contribution, starting from $10 or more, can make a significant impact by helping us purchase toys for these children on the Big Island. Your generosity truly makes a difference!
You can join us in honoring our daughter, Hannah’s memory, by giving a toy to bless a child through a donation of $10 or more.
Dawn and I ask you to prayerfully consider extending your hands to help! Send a gift today to help a needy family, and extend the gospel on the Big Island. TOGETHER we can make a difference!

This short video will give you a glimpse into how God is at work on the Big Island. Some of the people who are receiving the aid that we are sending share their thanks at the end of the video. It’s heartwarming to see.
Thank you for joining us in prayer, and for considering making a gift to help our precious familia.
