From Stalled to Multiplying: How God Is Moving in Durango

New Steps, New Faith, New Momentum

One of the greatest joys in ministry is seeing the unmistakable hand of God at work. Just this week, I got off the phone with Pastor Noe Reyes, and his voice was full of gratitude as he shared all that the Lord is doing in their church. It wasn’t always this way. In fact, when I first met Noe back in 2021, the church was stuck—discouraged, small, and unsure of its future.

From 15 to 90: A Work of Grace

At that time, Vida Durango had only 15 people after three years of church-planting efforts. They were weary and struggling to gain traction. I encouraged Pastor Noe to consider some new steps to engage the community in Durango. He began partnering with Futbolistas para Cristo (Soccer for Christ), which opened new relational doors throughout the city. The church leadership also began praying together more intentionally, building unity and spiritual momentum.

Over time, we walked together through evangelism training and a marriage course, both of which helped the church make meaningful connections with new families. Slowly, but unmistakably, God began to breathe fresh life into the work.

Today, Vida Durango has grown to around 90 people, and they are preparing to formally organize as a church. Their leaders and elders have been trained, and the congregation is vibrant and growing.

Pastor Noe recently shared these words:

“When I first met Pastor David, the project was stalled in its growth, and we were struggling with discouragement and with a woman who tried to divide the group. In those moments of confusion and weariness, David, through his mentoring, helped me find in God the path to persevere, maintain the unity of the church, and rediscover the passion and vision that drove us to move forward. Thanks to God and to the encouragement I received, today, after these years of walking together, not only have we grown, but we are now in the process of planting a second church.”

That second church, El Camino (The Way), launched in August. Among the new attendees is a couple named Jose and his wife, Mirna, who are being discipled and preparing to be baptized in December. Behind every number, there are real lives—changed, restored, and set on a new course by Christ.

Even more encouraging, Pastor Noe shared that other pastors—seeing the growth and health of Vida Durango—have begun seeking him out for coaching. His influence is expanding, and God is using him to strengthen other churches in the region.

A grateful mother and her child are blessed by Hannah’s Toys of Hope!

Hurricane Melissa struck eastern Cuba, causing severe flooding and major property loss for several of our partner pastors and their families — including Eliaquín & Marielena, Sixto & Melkis, and Pastor Arcadio. Many are now in urgent need of food, clean water, clothing, blankets, and materials to rebuild.

Even in the midst of hardship, the church continues to shine. Ministries like Hannah’s Toys of Hope are still bringing joy, school supplies, and the gospel to children throughout the island.

At the same time, God is moving powerfully in Mexico and across Cuba, where new churches are being planted, leaders are being trained, and families are being discipled.

Your generosity through Beyond Borders becomes a powerful channel of God’s grace—empowering pastors, strengthening families, planting churches, and filling children’s hearts with joy and the hope of the gospel.

Because of your prayers and faithful support:

  • Pastors and their families are being supported

  • Marriages are being strengthened
  • Churches are being planted in unreached areas

  • New believers are being discipled, and leaders are being raised up

  • Families in need are receiving food and supplies

  • Children are being blessed with toys, school supplies, and the gospel through Hannah’s Toys of Hope

But the need continues, and the harvest is plentiful. 🌾

Would you prayerfully consider joining us to expand God’s work on the Border, the Baja, and Beyond?
