How We’re Changing Lives Together
You may not be aware of all the ways we’re supporting pastors, leaders, and the community on the Big Island. In addition to sending monthly aid for food and basic items like soap and cooking oil, we’re also addressing other important needs. This year, we’ve helped a pastor purchase an air conditioner to cope with the extreme heat and provided leaders with a computer, cell phone, doors, windows, a bicycle, and a water tank. We’re also giving toys to children to bless them and their families. Thanks to your generosity, we can continue helping in these ways.
Pastor Jorge and Rachel
Today, I want to highlight Pastor Jorge and his wife, Rachel. We’ve been supporting them as they build a home that also serves as their place of worship, called Saved by Grace. They were previously meeting in an old, run-down home that was damaged by a tropical storm. When Jorge and Rachel reached out for help to build a house church, Dawn and I recognized the need and began sending funds for the construction. The total cost is $2,500 USD, which is affordable compared to homes in the U.S., but on the Big Island, where the average monthly income is just $25, it’s an overwhelming challenge.
Pastor Jorge and Rachel have been planting this church for six years and have found great joy in the journey. Jorge shared, “We’ve loved seeing people who accept the Lord as their Savior begin to be fruitful and begin to change by the power of the gospel. We have had many testimonies of people who just gave their lives to the Lord minutes before dying. We have also seen how the Lord has healed and restored people who have suffered from illnesses. We have seen how a generation of young people congregate to worship and how the Lord has given them beautiful gifts and talents which are used for the glory of God.”
Jorge continues, “It has been very hard and arduous work, but seeing the fruit of each sacrifice has been gratifying and worth every moment. God has been very faithful, and we have offered our entire lives to His service and will continue to do so.”
The building they were using was on the verge of collapsing, and with the church growing and new people coming to Christ, they desperately need a safe place to meet. We’re helping them build it, but they still need $1,000 to finish construction.
