Dreaming Big for God’s Kingdom

What happens when God’s people dare to dream beyond what’s possible? Last week in Medellín, Colombia, surrounded by passionate leaders from across the Americas, that question came alive for me. As we gathered to pray, worship, and share strategies for reaching new corners of God’s world, the sense of unity and vision was electric, proof that when we trust God, even the biggest dreams can begin with a small step of faith. It was a real joy to reconnect with old friends while getting to know some of the missionaries that I don’t know as well.
A Vision Gathering in Medellín

Leaders from countries as diverse as Germany, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, the Caribbean (including Haiti), and the U.S. Native American ministries joined together, each bringing their unique perspective and deep commitment to Christ’s work. While most of our group represented the Americas, our colleague David Stoddard, who is ministering in Germany, helped guide our strategic planning process.
Together, we began to dream about what God might do through us in the next ten years, even envisioning the possibility of seeing our missionary force triple. The words of Jesus echoed through our conversations:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out more laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 10:37, 38
We’d love for you to join us in that prayer — asking God to raise up more workers for His harvest.
Believing God for the Impossible

During our meetings, I challenged the group with a miracle-sized goal: Could we see 10,000 churches planted? It’s a dream bigger than any of us could accomplish alone—but that’s what makes it a God-sized vision. When we are stretched beyond our ability, we lean even more on God’s promises, His Spirit, and His power to move in unexpected ways. It’s only when we ask for the impossible that we become truly dependent on Him
Faithful Workers in the Harvest

Whenever I’m with fellow missionaries, I’m impressed by their deep commitment and sacrifice. Many have served for decades, some for more that 40 years. Dawn and I only have a few years away from reaching that mark ourselves. It’s humbling to consider how our fellow missionaries have left family and the comforts of home to embrace new cultures and people for the sake of the gospel.
A Life That Inspires: John and Cathy Rug

One missionary couple who particularly inspires me is John and Cathy Rug, who have served in Chile for over 40 years with his wife, Cathy. John is blind, yet his life is a beautiful testimony of humility, courage, and faith. He and Cathy launched a ministry called CEMIPRE, which serves people with disabilities, addressing their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.
Their vision encourages local churches and church plants to integrate discipleship of those with disabilities into their DNA. God has used their ministry in remarkable ways.
Since the countries where we serve in are so spread out, and travel is expensive, we don’t get to see each other often. Most of our communication happens over Zoom, which is helpful, but nothing replaces time together in person.
Coffee, Fellowship, and Family

No visit to Colombia would be complete without savoring its world-famous coffee! On our last day, we visited a coffee plantation, where we learned about the process from cultivation to roasting. As someone who enjoys coffee (and even roasts my own beans), I loved every minute!
It was a perfect way to end our trip, full of fellowship, laughter, and gratitude for our MTW missionary family.
