Today marks day 45, the half-way point in reading through the Bible in 90 days. One of the main things that the Lord has shown me so far as I’ve been on this journey is that I need to listen to Him. I pray to the Lord, and ask Him to hear my plea, to answer me. Yet I realize that I’m not always listening.
Psalm 86 spoke to me in a new way as I read it a couple of days ago. “Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you–you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I life up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O Lord to, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me” (Psalm 86:1-7).

I do desire that the Lord hears my voice. I’m grateful that I’m crying out to a gracious and loving God. The Lord is not a tyrant, but a good and forgiving God. Therefore, I can come before Him with confidence. But Lord am I listening when you speak to me through your Word? When your Holy Spirit nudges me? I do desire to grow in listening to my Lord, and going where He leads me.
The Word of God is transformational. It does not return void. It has the power to change us from the inside out. It brings us grace when we deserve judgement. It brings healing when we are wounded. It gives hope to the broken-hearted. We can place our confidence in the Word of God, because God does speak to His people through His Holy Word. God does indeed speak through His Word. Are we listening?
