Lives Transformed in Oaxaca: Nury’s Story
It’s so encouraging to see God changing lives in Oaxaca and throughout Mexico. One of those lives belongs to Nury, a single mother of two teenage daughters. Her story beautifully reflects how God is using Pastor Eliel, his wife Jessica, and their church, Hospital de Fe (Hospital of Faith), to transform lives. With over 150 people attending weekly, the church is growing, and Nury’s journey is just one powerful example of God’s work.
An Unexpected Invitation
Nury’s story began when her cousin, Zaleny, invited her to an event. Nury, thinking it was about cosmetics (since Zaleny sold them), agreed to attend. However, Zaleny encouraged her to bring a notebook, saying, “You’ll want to take notes—it’s a Bible study.”
To Nury’s surprise, the Bible study was only two blocks from her home. She arrived ahead of her cousin and felt uncertain—it seemed too joyful to be a Bible study. Hearing laughter coming from the group, Nury thought she might be in the wrong place.
She called Zaleny, who assured her it was the right location. Nury was warmly welcomed and introduced to Pastor Eliel, his family, and others in the group. Just two weeks later, the pandemic hit, but Pastor Eliel didn’t let that stop their gatherings. He invited Nury to study the Bible through a WhatsApp group, and Nury accepted.
A Journey from Belief to Relationship
Looking back, Nury says, “From that moment, it has been a great blessing to be a part of Hospital de Fe.” She explains that although she always believed in God and Jesus, she didn’t understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with God.
She recalls, “My daughters attended Catholic schools, and through their homework, I began reading the Bible. But I confess, I didn’t understand it—much less live it out.”
Through the ministry of Hospital de Fe, Nury came to understand what it means to know and walk with God. She joyfully shared, “I thank God for coming into my life. I accepted Jesus as my Savior.”
Finding Hope in Difficult Times
Recently, Nury’s mother passed away, a painful experience that might have overwhelmed her had it not been for her faith. She reflected, “If God hadn’t chosen me at the right time, it would have been much more difficult to say goodbye. But God has given me hope.”
Gratitude for a Loving Church
Nury expressed deep appreciation for her cousin’s invitation and for the way, Pastor Eliel shared the gospel with her. She said, “I thank God for using Pastor Eliel in a special way to share the good news with me. And I thank God for making Hospital de Fe a welcoming church, where through each member, I have experienced His love in difficult times.”
Nury’s story is just one of many lives forever changed by Jesus through the ministry of Hospital de Fe. God is moving powerfully through Pastor Eliel, Jessica, and their church, bringing hope and transformation to Oaxaca and beyond.
